San José Nuestro Runway: Option 2

I love what I do. Fashion. Designing, sewing, shopping, blogging and... modeling.
I got into a modeling agency looking forward to learn more about posing for photographs. One week later, I was invited to the Traffic fashion show as a designer. Do to unplanned circumstances, it was decided that I would model. But not only model, I would be the first model on the catwalk and I would wear my own design.
I had two options:
1. Completely freak out.
2. Breath, smile and witness another dream come true.
I walked to the make up station. It was decided, I was going with option 2.
The experience was amazing. Make up artists and hairdressers were very professional. They work with different hair styles and face structures, and create a common look. Brushes, combs and hair pins come and go. Everyone needs to look fabulous as soon as possible.
Leonora Jiménez, Johnny Murillo and a catwalk specialist directed a short rehearsal, followed closely by every model. A fashion show might last around 30 minutes but it takes a lot of hard work.
Once the rehearsal is done and everyone has make up on, it’s time to get ready. We are on the 5th floor of the Grand Hotel Costa Rica, and designers help models dress up. I am on my own, but it’s okay, I know perfectly how the garments are supposed to go. I start to feel the rush, the excitement… We go down to the lobby and wait for the runway to begin. Some tourists flatter the costumes and take pictures with us, some of them ask me who designed the garments I am wearing. They look at me with shock when they find out I am the designer and the model. Several models tell me it’s great that I get to wear my design: No one can represent your design better than you. You know what you want people to feel, to think” they say.
-Is this your first catwalk?
-Yes, I answer with a smile.
-Oh God, you’re going to be the first one on the runway!
Someone announces the show is about to begin. The music starts, and Johnny taps my shoulder, I’m up next.
My heart is beating like crazy, I smile and begin to walk.
You know what they say “Go big or go home”.
